  • What are The Neighborhood Games?

Neighborhood Games are the sports & recreation branch of SkanStrength. They are an ever-evolving and expanding variety of inclusive games & recreational activities designed to continuously adapt to the needs of the community and provide healthy outlets for play and activity in a no-pressure, flexible manner.

  • Are the activities just for kids?

No, we are gradually expanding our offerings to adults as well! We want to provide play and recreation for the entire community. Our goal is to create opportunities for everyone to stay active, have fun, and connect with others through shared activities.

  • Do you only offer sports activities?

Absolutely not! While we have plenty of traditional sports options, Neighborhood Games is designed to provide a much wider variety of recreational opportunities. We offer:

    • Brain games like chess and strategy games
    • Creative activities including arts and crafts
    • Seasonal special events that bring the community together

We believe recreation should be inclusive of all interests and abilities. Not everyone connects with traditional sports, which is why we've developed alternatives that engage different talents and preferences. Whether you enjoy competitive athletics, creative expression, or intellectual challenges, we have activities designed for you.

  • How are Neighborhood Games different from travel sports?

Travel sports have completely changed the landscape of youth sports over the last 20 years. While there are pros and cons to having travel opportunities, and they can be beneficial for some, travel sports are not ideal for many families.

Sports cost more than ever, requiring travel all over the region (at minimum), expenses for hotel stays, food, uniforms, lessons, gear, and all associated costs. Participating in an intensive schedule at young ages is extremely prohibitive for a wide variety of people who may not be able to afford or sustain the schedules and costs associated with participation.

    The Neighborhood Games offer:

    • Affordable, flexible, local opportunities for kids and adults
    • Exposure to activities people might fall in love with that they otherwise wouldn't have tried
    • A balanced approach where participants can keep playing the sports they love with reasonable costs and manageable time commitments
    • Flexibility so families can still have a life outside of sports

ACTIVITIES

  • What types of activities are available?

We are always looking to expand and add more activities to accommodate the needs and desires of the community. Our activities aren't limited to just sports! We organize a wide variety of activities ranging from:

    • Old school recess games (kickball, capture the flag)
    • Organized sports (soccer, football, basketball)
    • Brain activities (after-school chess, strategy games)
    • Creative outlets (arts and crafts, painting, drawing)
    • Seasonal activities and special events

Our goal is to provide diverse opportunities that appeal to different interests, talents, and learning styles. Whether your child loves competitive sports, creative expression, or intellectual challenges like chess, we have activities designed to engage them.

We regularly update our offerings based on community feedback and seasonal interests.

  • Do you have beginner-level activities for children new to certain sports?

Yes, we have beginner-level activities for sports that require more skill development, such as Lacrosse and Baseball/Softball.

Games that are easier to learn, like Kickball, Tag, and Capture the Flag, are naturally inclusive of all skill levels due to their ease of participation.

Our focus is on creating supportive environments where everyone can learn and enjoy activities regardless of experience level.

Pricing

  • What do The Neighborhood Games cost?

    Prices vary depending on:

    • The specific activity
    • Available participant slots
    • Credentials of the instructor
    • Demand for the activity

Most activities range between $20-$30.00, with specialty games at higher prices and some opportunities at lower prices. For those who purchase more credits in a given activity, the cost per session decreases.

Partnerships & Community Impact

  • Do you partner with local organizations?

Yes! Many of our activities are associated with our community partners including:

    • Skaneateles Football Club
    • Skaneateles Youth Soccer Organization
    • Lakeshore Baseball & Softball
    • Skaneateles Youth Basketball

For activities associated with each individual organization, we donate a percentage back to the community organization to help with their operating costs, support children who are less advantaged, and help them sustain their organization for decades to come.
